Anissa Bane has been making Philadelphia laugh since 1999. Working as
Ms. Darkchild — the Princess of Comedy — she has built a career now
running more than 25 years as a stand-up comedian, host, actress and producer, and is the
founder of Absolute Soul Entertainment LLC.
Her start came at the Saffron House of Comedy, where a weekly host segment
turned into a stand-up career. By 2001 she had folded hosting into the act, growing into
the full multilateral entertainer she is today — a performer who can work a room clean in
the afternoon and take the same crowd somewhere else entirely by the evening show.
Since 2012 she has shared bills with Michael Blackson, Cocoa Brown, Rodney Perry,
Damon Williams, Rob Stapleton and Tommy 2 Smooth, and worked
stages including The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville and
Cannstatter Ballroom in Philadelphia, alongside long-running showcases
Women of Comedy, Soul Jam and Juke Sistas. In 2026 she
was featured on FOX 29 Philadelphia.
On screen she appeared as Renee Brown in "The Whispering Bench." She is currently
developing an original stage play, "Tenant Eviction," and produces her own live
events under Absolute Soul Entertainment — including
"Days of Our Lives — Comedy Edition," a live recording taping
August 16 at Cannstatter Ballroom that pairs a clean afternoon set with an
unclean evening show and karaoke comedy.
Ms. Darkchild books as a headliner, a feature and a host, and works corporate events,
private parties, expos and community shows alongside club and theatre dates. Her merch
line, Walking in My Season, runs at her shows and online.
